Jenna completes Undergraduate Internship with Aegg

Jenna Schuetzle has completed her Undergraduate Internship with Aegg Packaging.

The Internship forms part of her 4-year sandwich course in Creative Product Design BSc.

Jenna first heard about Aegg when she attended a talk at university from Nick, a previous Intern at Aegg. Jenna researched the company’s website and the internet before successfully applying for the post.

Reflecting on the last year working at Aegg, Jenna has found the entire experience ‘invaluable’.

‘Working at Aegg alongside my mentor Ada, who has done a similar degree and has great understanding of what I have gone through and will be going through, I have been able to grow and develop my skills in Product Design and preparing presentations for customers. I have also worked quite closely with Pat who has a huge wealth of experience in toolmaking and offered many very useful ‘do’s and don’ts’ when creating new designs and what is actually achievable. I visited an injection moulding factory and during this visit I spoke with designers and toolmakers and this too gave me a much better all-round appreciation of the design process through to product development.’

Jenna went on to say, ‘Aegg is a very unique company to work with. I believe I have had the opportunity to experience all aspects of the business, which I am positive I would not have had if I had gone to work with at a large company.  I not only learnt so much about the design process but got to know all other aspects of the business. While working closely with the sales team, I can clearly see how my work supports them when they present new ideas to customers to ensure the customers products stand out on the supermarket shelves and the importance of positive customer engagement. Aegg’s uniqueness also allowed me to meet directly with potential and current customers to design new packaging for their products. This has developed my skills to participate effectively and explain my ideas in a much better way.’

‘Once I complete my degree next year, my goal is to gain as much experience in design as possible and to eventually set up my own design business. The interactions with the entire Aegg team, senior management, accounts and auditor has helped me enormously towards this goal. The achievements I am most proud of during my time at Aegg are being asked to work as Full Time product designer for three months after the internship ended in June and also preparing and carrying out a photoshoot of Aegg products. This was another great opportunity to be creative and show off the products to their best advantage. My photographs are currently being used to highlight Aegg on social media and some will be printed onto canvas to use whenever Aegg participates in future exhibitions.’

‘My advice to Aegg’s new Intern would be to take notes, you never know when you will pick up helpful guidance and ask lots of questions.’
