Recycle Week 20-26 September 2021

Recycle Week 2021

Welcome to Recycle Week !It is a celebration of recycling across the nation. It’s the one week of the year where retailers, brands, waste management companies, trade associations, governments, the media, (and Aegg !), come together to achieve one goal : to galvanise the public into recycling more of the right things, more often.

This year’s theme is ‘Step It Up this Recycle Week’. The Climate Crisis is something we can actively do something about.

At Aegg, we are mindful of the need to reduce the drivers of global warming, and other environmental issues. As a responsible player in the food & drink packaging industry we are acutely aware of our responsibilities to humanity.

There are some really useful tips on recycling at work here too – click here.

Here are some of the messages from the campaign :

1 : Drive down emissions by recycling

WRAP_cars

We save 18 million tonnes of CO2 a year by recycling, the same environmental impact as taking 12 million cars off the road. Most of us are stepping it up to take climate change down, and recycling is one of the easiest ways to do it. Take action – recycle more.

2 : Take a bite out of climate change by recycling

WRAP_veg

We save 18 million tonnes of CO2 a year by recycling, the same environmental impact as 27 million of us going veggie. Most of us are stepping it up to take climate change down, and recycling is one of the easiest ways to do it. Take action – recycle more.

3 : Shake up the climate crisis by recycling your aerosols

Wrap Aerosols

Making 20 aerosols from recycled materials uses the same energy as making one from scratch. Most of us are stepping it up to take climate change down, and recycling is one of the easiest ways to do it. Take action – recycle your aerosols.

4: Clean up the climate crisis by recycling your bathroom plastics

WRAP_bottles

Making four shampoo bottles from recycled materials uses the same energy as making one from scratch. Most of us are stepping it up to take climate change down, and recycling is one of the easiest ways to do it. Take action – recycle your bathroom plastics.

How Aegg is Playing its Part

At Aegg, we are mindful of the need to reduce the drivers of global warming, and other environmental issues. As a responsible player in the food & drink packaging industry we are acutely aware of our responsibilities to humanity.

🌱 Our R&D team is in development stages for several projects that will use less material and will include more recycled content.

🌱 We are producing more and more food bowls in recyclable PET and PP plastic (whilst moving away from less recyclable PS)

🌱We are mindful on our sites, such as having recycling facilities to reduce landfill; using LED lights and automatic sensor lighting; all company cars that we bought in the past 2 years have either been hybrid or fully electric; encouraging car sharing (within regulations); using energy efficient electrical equipment; and using technology (zoom, etc) to reduce travel and the carbon footprint.

Plus…

🌱We have heavily invested in our logistics service, with more hubs based in ports closer to key customers, cutting down carbon emissions through transportation.
🌱We aim to continue to actively engage in widespread environmental discussions, including with the UK government, which we started in early 2019 (on the plastics tax discussion).
🌱One of Aegg’s key suppliers is involved in the #Furnace4TheFuture glass furnace, which will mark a strategic milestone in achieving a climate neutral glass packaging industry with the move from natural gas to renewable electricity.

Aegg welcomes the initiatives of #RecycleWeek and we are always looking at ways that can help to make our industry more sustainable.
