Aegg implements key goals from the UN Sustainability Development Goals framework

As part of our overall sustainability programme and objectives, Aegg aligns its sustainability efforts with seven UN Sustainability Development Goals (UN SDG’s) with a particular focus on those related to emissions, innovation and social and community impact.

3. Good health and well-being

Overall objective:

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve: 

  • Zero accidents at work
  • Staff engagement and satisfaction target of 75%
  • ISO 45001 Health & Safety in 2025

How Aegg is working to achieve these:

  1. We have a Health and Safety Policy and have consistently achieved a record of zero work-related accidents, supported by regular safety awareness and behavioural safety training
  2. We encourage hybrid working, supported by display screen assessments
  3. We plan to achieve ISO 45001 certification in 2025, requiring regular risk and safety systems audits
  4. We have an Employee Wellbeing Policy
  5. We have introduced an Employee Assistance Programme for all employees
  6. We have introduced an annual employee engagement and satisfaction survey to better understand how to make Aegg a happy and healthy place to work
  7. We are introducing an Employee Volunteering Policy to support a nominated local environmental charity, The River Waveney Trust.

5. Gender Equality

Overall Objective:

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

 

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve:

  • Gender pay gap measurement, base year 2024 and develop policies to improve
  • Increase % of female employees from 10% to 20% by 2030

How Aegg is working to achieve these:

  1. We will work to reduce the gender pay gap by 2030 and we guarantee the same pay for the same roles
  2. We celebrate International Women's Day (annually 8th March)
  3. We commit to eliminate unconscious bias in recruitment and to a discrimination-free workplace, based by awareness and training and Equal Opportunity and Diversity Policy
  4. Gender and role harmonisation reviewed and audited annually within membership of SEDEX

7. Affordable and Clean Energy

Overall objective:

Ensure access to affordable, reliable sustainable and modern energy for all

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve:

  • In 2025, ISO 14001 Environmental Management, ISO 50001 Energy Management System
  • Pure Green Tariff 100% renewable electricity generated from wind, solar, and hydro sources by 2025
  • Energy consumption per tonne sold reduced by at least 50% by 2034

How Aegg is working to achieve these:

  1. We commit to using 100% renewable electricity in 2025 up from 61% in 2024
  2. We are focussed on evaluating and evolving our portfolio of products by 'right weighting', focussing on designing even lighter jars and bottles using fewer raw materials and more efficient energy usage
  3. We have introduced Smart Building Systems and LED lighting, occupancy sensing and zonal controls
  4. The warehouse roof has been designed to let in maximum natural light and take solar panels for future introduction

 

8. Decent work and economic growth

Overall objective:

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve:

  • Staff engagement and satisfaction rates benchmark of 75%
  • Staff turnover rates to be lower than CPID average for industry sector (29.8%)
  • Zero accidents at work
  • Minimum average 8 training hours per employee per year

How Aegg is working to achieve these:

9. Industry Innovation and Infrastructure

Overall objective:

To build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve:

  • Product innovation: 80% of all volume to be 'right weight*' by 2030. Base year 2023
  • Smart warehouse layout design introduced in 2025

How Aegg is working to achieve these:

  1. Expand Aegg's specialist in-house design team to continuously review product design with sustainability at the fore: glass weight, product dimensions and palletisation
  2. Annual product review and recommended 'right weight' development such as a mold review
  3. Annual customer line reviews to recommend improvements to support 'right weight' product implementation
  4. Implement smart warehouse layout design; increasing efficient product flow, reducing FLT travel time and fuel usage

*'Right weight' is fit for purpose for individual customer lines ie ensuring each product maintains an optimal weight; balancing performance, cost, design and customer satisfaction with continuous improvement and testing

 

12 Responsible consumption and production

Overall objective:

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

 

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve:

  • Zero waste to landfill by 2030
  • 40% cullet by 2030 base year 2024
  • 80% strategic sourcing of suppliers audited against sustainability criteria

How Aegg is working to achieve these:

  1. We commit to using a Pure Green Tariff, 100% renewable electricity generated from wind, solar and hydro sources by 2025 up from 61% in 2024
  2. We are focussed on evaluating and evolving our portfolio of products by 'right weighting', focussing on designing even lighter jars and bottles using fewer raw materials and more efficient energy usage
  3. We have introduced a supplier code of conduct, including sustainability criteria
  4. We will publish an annual sustainability report, including Aegg's carbon footprint and encourage our suppliers to also do this
  5. New recyclable waste programme on site - weights monitored, and a single consolidated waste company used

13 Climate Action

Overall objective:

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

 

 

Aegg's targets are to achieve:

  • Approved SBTi targets for scope 1&2 emissions and working with our suppliers and customers to also sign up to SBTis
  • 80% of our suppliers are to be audited against sustainability criteria, helping us to increase recycled cullet to 40% by 2030
  • We only engage shipping companies with effective environmental policies, including green shipping, optimisation of routes, alternative fuels and propulsion systems
  • Optimise our own truck fleet through GPS tracking, route planning and efficient loading.  Our fleet of business-use cars is all electric or hybrid
  • Comprehensive team training on sustainability, including Advanced Carbon Foot-printing (GHG Carbon Accounting), Carbon Management and Carbon Reporting with Northumbria University
  • Celebrate Earth Day 22nd April 2025
  • Staff Volunteering Day focussed on local wildlife and ecology, including sponsorship of The River Waveney Trust
