The Science-Based Targets initiative offers companies a clear, actionable path to align greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions with the latest climate science, which is deemed necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. This is currently to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and achieve Net Zero by 2050. SBTi has developed global standards, tools, guidance, and target validation. Thousands of businesses worldwide are already involved, and Aegg is delighted to join them.
In April 2025, Aegg had our near-term scope 1 & 2 carbon emission reduction targets validated by SBTi, currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process1.
Aegg is committed to reducing our company's absolute scope 1 & 2 emissions by 58.8% by 2034 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions. Aegg has also developed a Net Zero2 plan to achieve by 2050 with the support of our partner, Smart Carbon.
Achieving the SBTi validation is a very important milestone in Aegg’s sustainability journey to date.
In addition, Aegg has achieved the following over the last six months:
To achieve our SBTi commitments, as part of our overall sustainability goals, Aegg will, in the coming years, focus our business on energy-saving and carbon-reducing initiatives such as electrification of our transport, green shipping, and sourcing glass from suppliers focussed on carbon reduction and the technological development of electric glass furnace production.
The UN described the latest climate science as ‘code red for humanity’. Whilst it is still possible to limit global temperatures to 1.5 degrees, as a planet, we are dangerously close to the threshold. Aegg is committed to playing a responsible role in this vital commitment.

1 SME streamlined route 1
2 Net Zero - a target of completely negating the amount of greenhouse gases produced by human activity, to be achieved by reducing emissions and implementing methods of absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
