As Aegg continues to expand, we welcome an experienced Technical Engineering Manager to the team, Alper Karairmak, to support the growth of the company through the continued supply of high-quality glass packaging products and relationships with manufacturing partners.

What does your role at Aegg entail?

My job is to ensure that manufacturers are producing the highest quality products for our customers.  I build relationships and stay in close contact with our manufacturing partners to make sure that product measurement results are accurate and fulfil our customers’ criteria. Essentially, I aim to help manufacturers develop a ‘total quality culture’ by identifying areas for improvement. On-site visits are a vital part of this, and I also participate in the trial filling of new products. These results are fed back to customers, and in this way, I develop a strong link between our clients and manufacturing partners.

What are your goals with the job?

My primary goal is to update the manufacturing handbook we have prepared for our manufacturing partners so that we can ensure they meet the same quality standards.

At the same time, several projects are underway to make products lighter to make them more sustainable, and I’m working with manufacturers on new right weight designs. We carry out inspections with our customers to make sure that these lighter products run smoothly on their lines.

What is your background, and how does this experience help with your role at Aegg?

I graduated in mechanical engineering and worked in the glass container industry in Turkey for 20 years in Production, Quality Management, and Customer Technical Service.

Before joining Aegg, I worked as a Quality Manager at GCA, one of Turkey's largest glass packaging manufacturers. With a team of 100 employees, we worked around the clock to ensure the millions of units produced per day met customer satisfaction standards.

Working in various departments in glass packaging production helped me gain knowledge about all the processes involved. Now I am keen to share this knowledge with our manufacturing partners and support them in continually improving their quality.

In addition, having worked in customer technical services for six years means I have developed a deep knowledge of filling processes, new product development, and addressing any customer concerns.

What are the biggest differences you have noticed since moving from Turkey to the UK?

To be honest, it wasn't an easy decision to move to England at the age of 48. But we took the leap because we believed that our children would have a better future.

While my family lived in Istanbul, I was working in another city 200 miles away and was only able to see them at weekends. I still travel for work from time to time for Aegg, but now I am able to spend much more time with my family than I used to.

One of the biggest differences here is that traffic drives on the left. It took me a while to get used to this (and all the roundabouts!) after moving here.

I was expecting the weather in the UK to be cloudy and rainy, but it hasn’t been like that at all. I think global warming also plays a role in this.

How has your family settled down in the UK?

I think we've got used to life here in a short time. The town we live in is calm (much calmer than Istanbul, of course), but there are still things to do. My sons like their new schools and have made good friends. Basketball is their main focus outside school. They go to a club and have training during the week and matches at the weekend. My job is to drive them, of course!

What do you like about working at Aegg?

I’m really happy to be part of the team I work with at Aegg. They have been really helpful since I arrived. Everyone who works here is an expert in their field, and I believe I’ll learn a lot from working with them. I also appreciate that they trust and support me in the work I do. In the short time I have been here, I feel like a member of the Aegg family. I firmly believe that Aegg will continue to grow, and I am delighted to be a part of it.
